Down to the wire GTX580 or GTX 560 Ti SLI

Getting down to the wire here, need to order my new build. Still cant decide between:

2X Nvidia GTX 560 Ti 2Gb

Its between either of these solutions. This will be my 3rd build, never run SLI before but im capable, so no worries there. Future proofing is not neccessary here as i wont be upgrading again untill the keplar series has been released. Just want to play games in the next year or 2 as high as possible, with as little as issues as possible. I know that doesnt neccessary coincide with SLI, but ive heard great things about Nvidias SLI driver support and stability.

So if it were up to you, what would you choose?

i have searched on this issue and most threads didnt sway me either way and didnt apply to the 2gb 560 ti solution or non-future proofing route.

Also if it helps, it will be powering a 1080p ASUS 3d ready monitor, and a 1650x1050 second monitor as well

gtx 560 ti SLI will be better than single 580 for sure !!
but you will need a motherboard that support SLI, it will have 2 PCI-E slots x8 , x8
and you will need a good PSU for that .. some thing like crossire or antec .. am runing a single gtx 560 ti with 500w so i think you will need 800w .. that will give you a headroom for more HDD and fans and extra upgrades .. and make sure that the PSU is 80 Plus Certified
also a will need a good processor that will not bottleneck the graphic cards performance 😉 i5 2500 is good but if you want to go cheaper go with AMD .. maybe phenom ii x4 980 😉

What are your full system specs?(CPU,RAM,etc.)

What is the make/model of your PSU?

At your resoultion a GTX570 would be good but if you really want best you can get then a GTX580 would probably be your best solution.It's always best to go with a more powerful single card than a multiplie GPU setup.

I'm running SLi'd GTX560Ti's on a 620w PSU, 800w is overkill.

if you get the 580 you can add another down the road when performance becomes an issue, atm one 580 is enough for any 1080p gaming, the ti's while a bit faster cant be improved without junking the pair and getting something totally new, also sli occasionally has driver problems

^ That's what I suggest doing but the OP wants to move towards the new GPU's.

Really don't see the point in buying GPU now if/when the new GPU's are coming out in the next couple of months.Should just wait it out with what you have now and save your money.

it doesnt happen in important games but sometimes they dont write sli profiles for little known or unpopular games

For the couple of times I've had that happen I've always been able to force SLi via the Nv control panel, there have been a couple of demo's where that hasn't worked but then they were demo's.

GTX 560 Ti SLI will be faster, much faster if you give the cards a nice high OC. At 1080p I don't think you'll see much benefit from the 2gb models.

Ok so here is the rest of my build

nzxt phantom case
Corsair 850W modular PSU
ASUS P8Z68-V PRO LGA 1155 Intel Z68 Mobo
Intel i5 2500k 3.4 Ghz CPU
8Gb Corsair vengance 1600mhz dd3
Intel 510 120Gb SSD

I would wait for the new GPU's but i heard the keplar series isnt going to be released untill early 2012 and i dont want to wait that long, plus when it comes time to upgrade to the new GPU's i will want to wait untill the more developed cards are released.

Will i really not see any diffrence in performance over the 2gb mode of the 560ti with a 1080p monitors and 1650x1050 monitor set up?

plus i want it to run 3D vision smoothly

That's what i'm hearing too.Q1 of 2012.But that's not that far away.Only about 3 months.That's why I think it's a waste to buy one now if they are so close to being released.

At 1080p yes,you will not see an improvement.Infact even at 2500x1600 you don't see an increase in performance when using a 2GB model.It's only in extreme resolutions such as with Eyefinity or Nvidia 3D Surround would you benefit from having a 2GB model.In fact at those resolutions it's almost a requirement that you have at least 2GB of VRAM.
