Downclocking my CPU

So, I know all about minimum CPU settings, I keep mine set at the default 5 percent. My issues is a about permanent downclock. first off, my FX-6300 is stock set to tubo boost to 3.8ghz, and ive actually notices smoother performance out of most games when I Disable turbo boost (stock setting at 3.5ghz). First I want to know how to disable the Boost unless I enable it manually, I tried saving a profile in Overdrive and setting it Default, that hasn't worked. still have to disable boost everytime I boot. Secondly I would like to know what the safe way to test the limits of downclocking are. I know that overclocking you risk damaging the socket or processor with voltage increases, is that same risk there when reducing voltage? or will I simply become unstable and have to reboot? I cant find a real guide to proper downclocking anywhere.

Generally if you want consistent performance and the chip is capable thermally, you would just force the boost to run all the time.

Not sure what the default 5% refers to, unless it is some software tool. Generally if you want to overclock or downclock you should do so in the BIOS directly. You should be able to just disable the boost if you want.

No damage will occur with down clocking. And little to no risk with extreme undervolting. They do design the VRM circuitry for an expected range, so going really low could cause some erroneous behavior, but overall the reduced duty cycle will make it cooler.

Wouldn't it be wiser to get a good after market cooler and not worry about down clocking the cpu by turning off turbo boost? Turbo boost runs for only a short time then clocks down the cpu to the default settings from factory there shouldn't be a issue with the system unless the standard heatsink that your using is not enough to keep it cool which is more likely your issue your having in this case.

everywhere i read, others with that cpu say they disabled the turbo core technology from bios to limit 3.5ghz

It would be, however I have an AMD FX-6300, which is used in an AM3+ socket. And I cannot find a single CPU Fan and Heatsync that claim they fit am AM3 socket where allot of people don't review it poorly. Apparantly allot of peope have cracked the MB's trying to get Heatsyncs on that were supposed to fit.

You misunderstood, I know disabling the turbo is not downclocking. I wanted 2 separate answers, how to perm disable the turbo, and then information about properly downclocking

He was having issues with performance as it boosted. He felt it had better performance with consistent clocking. OCers tend to disable boost as well, because it can cause stability issues. While at X clock, the voltage may work great, but when the clocks boost, it can cause problems.

But yes, it would be wise to get a decent aftermarket HSF as well.

ALL OF AMD"S AM Sockets (2-3+) And their FM sockets ALL use the same exactly mount. They are ALL interchangeable. Anyone who broke their board putting a Heatsink on wasn't doing it properly.
