Downgrade from Windows 10 causing BSOD

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. A few weeks later, I upgraded my mobo and cpu from AMD to Intel. Now after attempting to downgrade to Windows 7, I get a BSOD. This occurs when the Windows startup screen begins. Two of the little dots show up and then it crashes every time, same place. I cannot boot in safe mode and repair says it cannot fix the problem. Wtf do I do?

If you successfully upgraded your MB/processor from AMD to Intel, it's trying to roll back your Windows 7 installation to AMD motherboard drivers.

Computers don't like that.

You could try booting off the AMD build into safe mode if you still have it, then removing all chipset/motherboard drivers. At that point, you may be able to install the Intel drivers.

Well I have the intel motherboard disk. Couldn't I install the drivers from that?

Not if you can't boot into Windows.

You could do a clean Windows 7 installation, but it's sounding like you want to avoid doing that.

Yea definitely avoiding that. So basically if I try to boot in safe mode, it hangs up on aswrvrt.sys which is an Avast file. Not sure what that could mean.

Alleluia I've been trying to figure this out for 6 %&%###$ hours and I finally figured it out. The dumbest shit I've ever seen. My SATA ports were set to ACHI and not IDE. My old mobo was IDE. Oh my god I can't believe it was that simple.

If you have an SSD or even just a fast hard drive, AHCI is something you might want to enable though.

Yea I switched it back. I only downgraded because of a windows activation problem, then I upgraded again to 10. Problem solved, even if it was a bit ridiculous.
