Downgrading my Nintendo Dsi to 1.4.4

Hey guys,
Have recently bought a preowned nintendo DSi from a game shop in australia and noticed my r4i 3DS is not working on it.

Its latest software is currently at 1.4.5A.
Before you guys tell me to update the r4 card. yes, i have visited the r4 website and downloaded the latest fireware for the sdhc. Unless I'm doing something wrong.

anyhow, i wish to downgrade the software to a suitable update thats compatible with the r4i 3ds.

location: australia. thus the console is not from USA region and i can't follow the other steps that are suited for consoles from USA region.

but stopped reading after reaching the "your console must be USA region"
can anyone tell me if this would make a difference?
