My computer is connected by an ethernet cable from my router. Whenever I patch/download something primarily from the League of Legends patcher or any web browser, it often downloads at extremely low speeds under 50kbps. Whenever I download from Steam, I have normal download speed. I hear that this happens because I'm using ethernet or something? How can I fix this please

Ethernet is the most common and most stable way of getting data from point A to point B.

Lets get some info from you, so we can try to isolate this down.

List your computers hardware. Brand and model numbers for each item.
What is the brand and model of your router.
What ISP do you use, and how much bandwidth are you paying for? Upload and download numbers.

3mb download, 1 upload (Yeah, I know. Garbage! haha)

megabytes or megabits.
3 megabits a second is slow but 3 megabytes a second is fast.

3megabytes

then I don't see the problem I put up with 7mbps which is about 800kbps download 3 mbps is really fast.
it may just be the servers.

I think I would call Verizon and ask them why things are slower with a web browser or with LoL. Because your system looks to be quite capable. It should be able to handle a 100 MB stream easily.

I looked that Verizon unit up, and Verizon seems to have a lot of excuses posted as reasons why service might be slow. Every thing they had listed seems to try to excuse problems a user should only rarely see, not see constantly. Then again, that is a DSL unit, and DSL has never been a great way to get internet.
