Having a network speed issue with a new PC just bought. It's an iBuyPower AM601 FX Desktop. It's up and running but instead of the ~15 mb/s download speed I used to have on the six year old pc, I'm getting ~1 and sometimes less (according to speedtest) with the new one. I've got the same exact USB network adapter plugged in and it's in the exact same location.

Other electronics on the network are getting the usual speed (laptop, phones, ps4, etc.).

Anyone have any ideas on what to try?

Yeah I understand that. But it replaced another computer, I'm not running any more than I used to before

1) Verify the bit rate you are getting with the wireless adapter. Task manager will show you this on the 'network' tab. You should be getting something wildly over " the ~15 mb/s download speed " you are trying to reasch on the internet e.g. 100+mbit/sec. If not fix that first.
2) Use several of the network speed test sites (google to find them) and see how many mbit/sec you are getting over the internet. If you are getting closed to 1MBit/sec vs. 15 mbit /sec from several sites then post. It could be your router, your tcp settings, malware on your PC, etc. Note: do not use just one site for a speed test. Any one of these sites can be overloaded.
3) Use resource monitor (launched out of task manager from the performance tab or just type performance monitor in the start menu search box, to see ALL of the network traffic going on. A brand new PC might be loading all sort of fixes in the background.

It does seem like there are a lot of background processes but task manager is only showing 2-4% CPU and 22% memory usage with the browser open.

The speed is listed at 72.2 mb/s on the network tab.

Speakeasy speed test is showing .8 mb/s, 4.98 upload. AT&T test is showing .52 mb/s DL and 1.97 UL.

I don't imagine it's malware as it's literally just out of the box last night and all i've done is download google chrome. i wanted to start putting my games and programs on it but it took an hour just for GC so I was trying to figure out what was going on. Router, I haven't changed anything from the other computer to this one. I have to imagine it's a setting on the new pc but I'm just not sure what would be wrong.

Alright well it's definitely something with the wireless settings. Just for comparison I moved it to the living room and connected via Ethernet and it's getting 45 mb/s which is even more than usual.
