-is this the driver version and date of the driver you have installed and currently activated? 2015/10/19

(this is a guess as to why it might stop, i can think of other reasons that might depend on router settings or how the network is setup)
disable the power management for the wireless device (set for high performance) some drivers, will go to low power and the signal will be reduced to 1/10 then the stupid driver does not wake up an go back to full strength. the distance that the signal on low power might be only 5 feet. (or i guess you could move your router next to your wireless device)
typically that problem would be a BIOS or wireless driver bug. (more common for windows 7 upgrades, window 8.1 should work, execept you might have the microsoft generic driver installed rather than the OEM specific driver.
for this case, windows is kind of stupid, you have to update the driver but do not let the system pick the driver, you have to pick the driver and the version in control panel. you bring up device manager, find the wireless device, right mouse click, select properties, select driver tab, select update driver. then here is the key part
select browse my computer for driver software, and then select let me pick for a list of device drivers on my computer
you should see a list of drivers , in my case I see 12 driver, 4 microsoft ones and 8 intel versions. Then I start to swear at the programmer because each driver is a differnet version but the user interface just list the driver over and over with no date or version number. you can blindly pick the driver, and check the version after it is installed. OR
you can use the PNPutility.exe to remove the old versions of the driver to make the list much smaller.
here is how to remove old drivers from the driver store: (pnputil.exe)
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc730875(v=ws.11).aspx
what happens if you do not do this? well, if you remove the driver via the user interface in device manager, the driver will be uninstalled. Then a second or two later the systems plug and play will kick in and try to help you by installing a driver.
problem is it will most likely just install the driver you just had rather than the new one you are about to install.
(you can have multiple netcards, with different driver versions if you wanted)
