Downloaded Files Won't Open?

Hello,
I have Windows XP Professional 32-bit, and just today installed firefox. I installed Minecraft with Firefox, and then went to double click it - nothing.
So I right click and click open. Nope. The only thing that opens so far, is Chrome. And something screwed with that, too I guess. Keep in mind, this is a fresh install of Windows XP, and if someone could help, please do.

You tried the simple fixes first, like restarting Windows?

Could be hardware, usual suspects being RAM or HDD so I would start by testing them, but back up your data first:

HDD >> SeaTools for DOS: http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/support/downloads/seatools/seatools-dos-master/

RAM >> Memtest86 Free Edition: http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm

The RAM came fine, and the HDD did too. Can you figure out another way, or do I have to reinstall or something?

If it was me I would do a fresh Windows install (unless you've got a recent full system backup like I always keep).

Other than that I haven't a clue.

did you install the latest updates and services packs?

Yeah, just install Windows 7 x64 and it works fine.
