Downloading the hard disk directory e.g. like a site map

Hi all,

I've got the fun task of reorganising my small company's hard disk structure, which has evolved organically over a couple of decades and it's huge and messy.

The first thing I need to do is inventory what we actually have already so I can come up with a sensible new system. I know there are duplicate files and folders all over the place.

Is there an easy way of getting Windows to produce something a bit like a site map for a hard disk? Something where I can quite clearly see a list of folders, the hierarchy of nested folders and files?

Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated!

this is a basic way to list everything on the drive

makes a simple txt file with the structure. though it does have to be done for each drive individually. but this should get you the info you need to begin building a better file system.

I've been using it for several years to catalog the files on my blu-rays and External HDDs. The software is free, but it's a bit dated. Last updated in 2012. It works fine in Windows 10.

It's a "list only" creator though. You won't be able to virtually modify the list to test a better drive layout.
