Downloads folder takes forever to load Windows 10

Whenever I went into the downloads folder in windows 10 explorer, it took like 1-2 minutes to load it (like the green bar in the address bar). I figured the problem was I had ~100GB of files in there so I cleared them all and the problem is still there. Takes 1-2 minutes to load an empty downloads folder before I can access it. Already tried the "optimize this folder for general items" trick and it still does it. Kinda annoying considering my HDD isn't ancient or anything.

rename the downloads folder in C:/Users to something like downloadsx
create a new folder called downloads in the same directory called downloads
restart your computer and see if this works.
