Just wondered what the downsides are of moving to an apu whilst running a 380 card alongside? The reason I ask is that the CPU listed above is the best one for the socket on my current MOBO. Funds are super tight so my plan was to spend a quick £100 on the A106800 and later upgrade mobo and cpu to a decent i7 and go all out.

Any ways I look forward to hearing from you guys. Been great with answers and help so far I'm sure you will be great this time too :)

Thanks just the type of answer I was looking for. I was never interested in the built in graphics just it came as top of the list on PCpartPicker.

I really need every last bit of CPU power just to give me a little more when playing Arma 2/3 online. And of course any FPS boost elsewhere would be great as well.

I currently have a AMD Quad Core x4 740 CPU is it worth upgrading to the Athlon X4 860k at a cost of £50 or around $70-80.

I know alot of people will say wait and I do understand their point of view however I really do need every last ounce of power and was planning on using my new upgraded cpu in a build ill do merely to sell on.

The 860k probably isn't a huge boost unless you overclock it. If you want a worthwhile jump you probably need to save up more money and look at a full CPU and motherboard replacement. Arma doesn't do all that great on AMD CPUs, so moving to an Intel i3 or i5 would offer a significant performance boost in that particular game.

Thanks alot for your help. I kind of expected it wouldnt be much of a performance increase considering the price and limitations of the socket I have. Stupid AMD. I don't mind their GPUs so much but their CPUs generally seem to such ass for gaming.

If I do decide to buy the 860k I may be coming back to you for advice on overclocking it ahah :) Am I right in thinking the AMD cpus with K and the end are overclockable? I may be completely wrong it is just something I came across earlier while researching CPUs.

You sure have that right about AMD and Arma. I have to say the X4 740 should be given credit where credit is due it has done a bloody good job this past 2 years even running Arma 2 and 3 at a playable FPS. Multiplayer or where lots of explosions occur it starts to have some problems.

You need to list your board model mate - the 860k is fm2+ kaveri & your current CPU & the 6*** series are trinity.

Unless your board is fm2+ compatible it don't work

The 860k is a fair jump in performance over the 740 IMO, nearly a 20% clock increase + a more refined instruction set + its unlocked - if it works on your board its definitely worth dropping £50 on (you can likely sell your 740 for £25 so will hardly have to spend anything)

It is FM2 and FM2+ comatible. At least I am pretty sure it is last time I checked. GA-F2A88XM-DS2.

To be honest I think I will be ordering it on Tuesday as any performance increase is greatly welcomed while I save up for my i5/i7 and mobo.

That's a decent board mate - grab an 860k - definitely worth it.
I'd also personally grab a cheap but decent cooler like the s40 for £18

You'll pull 4.2ghz easily with that combo & it'll kill your previous performance utterly.

Check your bios revision in cpu-z on the motherboard tab - it needs to be on f7 to run the 860k , if its lower you'll need to do a bios update while your current 740 installed.
