DP and DVI not working on ASUS vg248qe

I've come across this problem with my monitor, where the DP cable I normally use will give "no signal", which has happened before but I solved it by unplugging it and plugging it back, now that doesn't work. I then took a DVI cable instead which worked, but when I turn on 144 hz the screen will blink black every minute. But 60 hz works fine on the desktop and in some games. In CSGO my screen will even blink on 60 hz

My monitor is ASUS vg248qe

So whether I use DP or DVI I have a problem, does anybody know how to fix any of these issues?

Specs:
GTX 960
Intel i5 4960

I've had a similar issue with an ASUS monitor (I forget the exact model, but a 27" 1080p 60Hz model).
HDMI is fine. DP is almost like the monitor turns off/on frequently.

I forget exactly what I disabled in the menu.... I think it was "gaming mode" which fixed the issue. Worth a try.

I wish I had more for you, but I never went down the route of troubleshooting too much, as HDMI jsut "worked" - and shipping the monitor for an RMA didn't seem worth it.

Now, whether you can achieve 144HZ over HDMI will depend on the implementation.
HDMI 1.4 *could* do 144Hz, but sometimes manufacturer's restricted it to 120Hz in actual implementation.

Have tried power cycling many times, as I wrote in the post it used to work for me but this time it doesn't. I don't think it has anything to do with the power cable since it works with the DVI cable. I guess I need to invest in another display port and hope for the best.

Sorry, thought you meant unplugging the DP connection in the original post.
