DP to DVI?

So I have an extra monitor that I want to connect up for a third display. Only issue is the DP limitation. I'm running a R9 270x 4gb and I'm wondering if those converts you see on amazon and ebay work? And if they were to work, How well do they work? How long do they last? I've heard of people's adapters failing within the first month and some have them for years and they're fine. Also, if I were to get one, should I get a active adapter of a cable? I'd prefer to get a cable since that means less pieces in the back of my computer. I already have like 40 cables back there. I'm not kidding...

depends on the adapter really but since DVI is a very old interface it probably won't matter
