I have a 3 year old Lenovo Y70-70 laptop w/ an HDMI v1.4 out. What I am wondering is if I use a Male to Male cable can I get the upgraded effects of a display port cable or am I just wasting my money, like the M2M cable will go no further than the original HDMI? As in HDMI v1.4 only going to 120 mhz. Or will it now push the monitors 144mhz to 165mhz? Also would it change anything to do with G-SYNC or framerates and screen resolution?

Also I found this Tom's Forum article,... http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3612306/displayport-hdmi-cable-75hz.html
What I am wondering is this if I get a 144mhz monitor at 1440 or one at 1080, same 144mhz will the mhz stay the same or will it downgrade because it is an adapter cable or too much info for the HDMI port.

Thanx

Solution
No, the port is only capable of HDMI 1.4. A DisplayPort adapter won't change anything. You can only go down in capability or stay the same not up.
