DPC Watchdog Violation and trouble with GeForce 8400GS

Specs:
PC Model: Aspire M5641
OS: Windows 8
Graphics Card: GeForce 8400GS (512MB), Overclocked to 90% full capacity
System Memory: 2GB

Not sure where to start. I'm having trouble with my 8400GS.

Right now, under the graphics card in device manager I see "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" and basically the card is not detected on the system (not even in EVGA). I can't seem to be able to change the resolution and there are vertical lines on the screen at fixed intervals (spacing). These lines show up while I'm in the BIOS as well.

Here's how it all started. I was playing MW2 (something that I do often without running into any trouble) and after about 10 minutes the PC crashed with a BSOD "DPC Watchdog Violation". The PC restarted and I got back to the game but it crashed again in a matter of 5-10 minutes displaying the same error. The system restarted but this time, the resolution was a mess, there were all sorts of vertical lines on the screen that wouldn't go away even when I'm in the BIOS.

I've done everything from reinstalling the drivers to getting rid of any dust on the card(there wasn't much at all) but so far, nothing has worked.

Initially I suspected the card overheated considering that I replaced the fan on it but what doesn't add up is the fact that it was with a more powerful fan than the one that came with the card. I also monitored the temperature changes for about two months and noticed nothing concerning.

89 is a bit warm ideally you should only see 65 or 70 max. after 3-4 years of 89 degrees some of the electronic components may be wearing out. I recommend replacing it.

Yes I have, multiple times infact. I also reinstalled/updated all other drivers including the chipset driver.

Right now I can't really say because the card is not detected by the system but usually it's around 64 when idle and 80-89 while gaming.

It's been about 3-4 years since I bought it, the warrenty period has long passed. 89 isn't terrible for a graphics card isn't it?. At least it's not nearly as hot as it needs to be to cause a hardware failure right?

Replacing the graphics card is NOT an option for me right now. Boot?, it does boot, in fact I'm using the same graphics card at the moment. But the trouble is, the resolution is crazy and there are vertical lines on the screen. Plus graphics memory is displayed to be 256MB (should be 512) making it impossible to play any game.

I'm not sure what's wrong with it and it just might be fixable. Which is why I'm here. To find out why it's not working and whether I can fix it.

Thanks for the reply kajin41. The card works perfectly fine now UNLESS I try to play MW2 or any other game for that matter. The temperature is now around 72 while in-game(not overclocked anymore) but the game still crashes with a BSOD (video_tdr_failure)
