Hi, I am using latest windows 11 version, all online articles mentioned this feature has been rolled out, I installed all updates, all optional updates, it still doesn't work.
Truly painful to use windows 11 without this feature.

have you tried this?

right click start
choose Terminal (admin) - if it doesn't open as Powershell, click the drop down arrow in title row and pick from list

copy/paste this command into window:
Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth
and press enter
Then type SFC /scannow
and press enter

Restart PC if SFC fixes any files as some fixes require a restart to be implemented

dism doesn't finish?
that isn't ideal

do you mean drag and drop things into applications on the taskbar?
or just to the taskbar? as it depends on what they are. Applications can be drag/dropped but it won't let you link folders.

these might help - https://www.neowin.net/guides/how-to-fix-drag-and-drop-issues-in-windows-1011/
Oh, to clarify, Windows 11 lacks the drag and drop to taskbar feature which older windows versions had.

for instance, you open Adobe photoshop and you minimize it, then you want to open a file you just drag your file into taskbar and hold it for a moment on Photoshop icon, and windows automatically opens up the photoshop window so you can drag it in.

currently it just shows a little denied icon when you try to do it, but windows readded this feature recently.

My windows 11 installation is pretty new, I also have the original version straight from microsoft.com, unfortunate. I still have the dism command running in powershell, it hasn't added a single O since my last message.

that should work so see if dism fixes it. it is unusual its taking so long.

so it let you run sfc at same time as dism? how? in another window? I wouldn't have thought windows let you run 2 scans at same time.

I first tried to run dism alone, did not work (got stuck)
I did not run sfc scannow at the same time.
I later tried running sfc scannow alone after closing dism.
After sfc scannow finished I tried running dism again, did not work. (stuck again)

most of the fixes I find for it stopping also include sfc not working. Some people have waited over 12 hours.

some suggested fixes are:
try running it in safe mode
  1. go to settings/update & security/recovery
  2. under advanced startup, click restart now button
  3. this restarts PC in a blue menu
  4. choose troubleshoot
  5. choose advanced
  6. choose startup options
  7. click the restart button
  8. choose safe mode with networking
  9. Pc will restart and load safe mode
try running it in a clean boot
Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

it doesn't remove anything, just stops non microsoft programs running with startup, easy to reverse

repair install - https://www.elevenforum.com/t/repair-install-windows-11-with-an-in-place-upgrade.418/
all it does is installs win 11 22H2 over the top of itself, then you get all the updates again. I did one a few months ago, only took 20 minutes to be back on desktop. Doen't touch anything other than windows.

well, no luck.
DISM heatlh checker works however, and it only tells me Microsoft Store is corrupted and repairable. (it doesn't repair, just checks for corruption)

this might help - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ndows-10/4e7e0c8e-cf88-4fdf-b990-19b44db470ab

try running the windows store apps troubleshooter?
its on settings/system troubleshoot tab
choose other troublsehooters

thats a suggested way to fix the cache anyway - https://www.makeuseof.com/ways-to-fix-damaged-microsoft-store-cache/

so did you try the repair install? as that should have replaced windows.
Ok so, windows came up with an update again, it had the same version number as before. I immediately installed it and DISM worked just fine afterwards.
Now I have File Explorer tabs!! which is supposed to be in the same update that brings task bar drag and drop feature back, but I still can't perform this action, for some reason...

I wonder if its your user profile.

try making a local user and see if it can drag/drop anything into taskbar - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...-windows-20de74e0-ac7f-3502-a866-32915af2a34d

if it works on the new user, its likely a corrupted user profile. It can happen. Easiest fix is make a new user, make it admin and while logged onto old user, copy the contents of C:/USers/Olderusername over the contents of C:/Users/Newusername to give it the same access as old user.

I have had to do it before on win 10, it means you don't have to start again and only need to logon to a few things.

Sure beats reinstalling windows.
