So i was playing a game called "Dragon Age Inquisition" and after like 20 minutes or so during playing,my PC suddenly froze up with sound buzzing and i had to hard reset my PC.

My hardware is fine,i tested my CPU with "Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool" and it passed the test just fine,my video card is brand new and i got it very recently so i doubt that it is faulty,my motherboard is also pretty new,it was replaced not long ago this year due to my old motherboard being faulty and i tested my ram with memtest and it also passed all test with 0 errors.

So what i'm currently suspecting is maybe drivers being faulty? but my friend told me to install the drivers in certain orders and that way his PC is always stable with never had any bsod or lock ups. And so i did the same way he did so i somewhat doubt that it may be drivers but i might be wrong.

But i can play other games just fine, like titanfall, sims 4,Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes (PC version) all just fine and stable without a single lock up once at all until some certain games like BF3&4 (not really surprised at all as both games were not optimized anyways and so i thought it's the game that's causing this.) and this game Dragon Age Inquisition.

So what's going on? how can i fix this? is it the software or is it something else?

My PC spec

Intel Core i5 4670k 3.4ghz
Gigabyte R9 280x OC edition
8GB Ram
850 watts PSU
Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H motherboard

Inquisition locking up/freezing is a common issue. I wouldn't get concerned about it. I currently put mine on hold until they patch it a little more (also waiting to finish my new build so I don't have to sacrifice any quality 😛)

So your saying my problem is the software itself that's causing this lock up?

But like i said above,my hardware is fine and running from what the tests told me. Thanks then i guess i'll wait for the game to be optimized.

And also if this is an common issue, wouldn't the forums have threads or posts about it? i mean i googled about this and i found nothing about the game causing this to lock up.

I don't know what forum you are looking at, but I've seen plenty on the official forum. Not only that, I've experienced them. As I said, I'm of a 95% certainty that the software is the cause. Without any other symptoms, that is enough certainty for me. It's up to you whether you choose to believe me or not. :)

Thanks for the info,i was just confirming that if it was really the game or not, because i thought that if i could run other games just fine, then my PC is fine and it was just the software.

And also this was what i wrote on google and i did not saw any words mentioning about lock ups,but did see about freezes, but that is just the application freezes, they did not experience PC completely locked up. So yeah, thanks for your help,i'll choose your first reply as best answer.

Hey there, I've been fighting the crashes in this game since the beginning, it's ridiculous. I experienced the DirectX error crash, the CTD with no message, and this ANNOYING system lock up that requires the hard power down. And it all happened so frequently I quit the game for a while hoping EA/Bioware would be able to pull their heads out of their asses. Finally I've come across a fix that has made the game run smooth as silk for me, no random errors and I can make it through cutscenes, the game is actually enjoyable! I used this guide to force my nVidia card to run at max clock without the application-based boosting, and installed this version of VCRedist, the x86 file. I realize you're running an AMD card and I did some brief research in putting those cards into the boost state manually but didn't turn much up, maybe you'll be able to find something. BUT, that is the solution, disabling the boost, it seems DA:I can't handle that process. Good luck!

This is not a Hardware problem this is all about the game I've played over 110 hours. The game itself seems to not like Factory Overclocked Cards I run 2 GTX 770's ( MSI Twin Frozer) During cut scenes (Limited to 30Fps in game) are choppy in both sound and visuals. This improves if I disable SLI and use only one video card. Using both seems to turn the PC into a space heater Only in DAI and B4 does this happen. Also I rolled my drivers back for me it was a roll back from 347.52 back too 344.65 with these changes I can now play the game again without it crashing every time a cut scene is trying to load it has crashed but only a couple times and only to desktop it didn't lock up the PC or super heat the video card as the crashes were doing before I made these changes. It has made the game much more playable still a pain but I can play. wouldn't say it's a fix but It does tell me it's the game not hardware hopefully they will have it figured out soon I'd really like to see what this game is like without all the issues.

Same here, I have never seen a game that can cause the game to run slower with CFX or SLI. So I run on a single card also, I hope they patch all these annoying issues soon, laggy cutscenes is like watching a slow motion movie. I actually just finished the game yesterday, 110 hrs and 99% completion :)

My theory as to what's going on is that when you run the game in online mode, it tries to synchronize your save file with the EA servers on the fly. If it can't find the servers in this mode, that seems to be when the game goes into a hard lock.

I haven't been able to test this yet but, at least in my case, I strongly suspect that it's linked to the stability of my internet connection, although I'm also running two cards (Radeon cards in Crosffire mode -R9 290 cards). I do have to admit that when we were running the game with only a single card (GTX 780) we didn't have this problem. However, we also had the computer running in the living room right above the wireless router in the basement, one floor below.

When I moved the computer to the bedroom -2 floors above the router -and switched to the Radeon cards in Crossfire, the problem began showing up. At first I was using a small USB network stick in the bedroom and, after resetting the computer, I could no longer connect to the network without pulling out the network stick and putting it back in. I've since upgraded to a usb network card that has an extension cord and its own antenna. Now the problem seems to happen less frequently (although it still happens) and I know that my connection is more reliable (I also don't need to reset my internet connection after rebooting). My ISP has been having some general issues lately and I also know that my distance to the router used to also cause a weaker connection with the old USB stick.

My next step is to play the game exclusively in offline mode to test this theory. I'd be interested in hearing other people's experiences.
