I just installed new RAM today (Gskill Trident Z RGB 3200Mhz 2x8gb) and when I went into the BIOS I noticed that the DRAM frequency was at 2133Mhz. I decided to enable XMP profile 2, which changes the frequency to 3200mhz. However, as soon as I did this my CPU fan revved up and got supper fast and loud. (My current CPU is a Ryzen 3 1200) So, I turned it off and it stopped running fast. I wanted to know why this might be happening. Also, I was planning to upgrade my CPU to a Ryzen 5 3600 and was wondering if that would help.

Solution
My current CPU is a Ryzen 3 1200

Ryzen one had memory issues. The first thing to do is to update the bios. Make sure Windows is updated as well.

The official fastest ram support is only 2667MHz. So it probably won't run at 3200MHz without massive tinkering. Set it for whatever is close to 2667MHz and wait for your CPU upgrade to get to 3200MHz. (I'm running 16GBs of DDR4-3200MHz on my Ryzen 2600.)

If I wanted to update the BIOS, which one should I get? Will the latest BIOS be compatible with my new CPU?(Ryzen 5 3600) Also, I have an MSI B350 PC Mate and this board will not work with a Matisse CPU (like the Ryzen 5 3600) unless you update the BIOS. I was told before that the one I should get is the latest one; however, I don't know if that will work with my new CPU.

You always get the newest one. You don't need to update them in order. If you are on F1, and F5 is the newest, just install that. You don't need to go F2, F3, F4, etc. (I'm making these numbers up btw. Your bios might be called something else.) Will it work with the R5 3600? I have no clue. Look at your boards CPU support list and see if the newest bios supports it.

MSI has a support page for their motherboards that has a compatibility tab and when i checked their it told me to get 7A34vAL for the R5 3600. But the newest BIOS is 7A34vAJ. So should I get the one it says in the compatibility tab or the newest one? BTW I am new to CPU upgrades and BIOS updates so excuse my frequent question asking, this is just a question I have been meaning to ask.
