Draw connections on mobo?

I would like to use a conductive pen to draw a connection on a motherboard. But it needs to cross over one circuit. I think that some type of clear protectant is used on the pcb, so that I could draw over it, but I could be wrong. Any advise would be appreciated.

They use a conformal coating to protect the traces. I have never tried your idea but it could work if the solvent in the pen doesn't break down the coating. A good place on all aspects of soldering and pcb rework is here: http://www.circuittechctr.com/guides/guides.htm
