Dreaded Asus z170-AR dual channel no post w/ dram led

I feel like I have read dozens of threads over the past week attempting to resolve this issue. I'm building a new rig:

Asus z170-AR mobo (flashed up to 1602 and now back to 1101)
2x G.Skill Ripjaws4 (F4-3000C15D-16GRK) ram
Intel i5-6600K LGA1151
Corsair H75 CPU cooler
EVGA Nvidia 980
Samsung 850 Evo M.2
Corsair RM750i PSU
=======================================================

Now, I have tried just about everything I can find in the posts. I've pulled the CPU and there was one pin slightly out of place that is now back in position, I have tried every combination of RAM, I've used the MemOK! button, I've updated BIOS, I've cleared the bios (both via jumper and battery), I've even sat on my knees praying to the good Lord above to let it boot.

Currently, I have stripped the rig down as far as I can. NO GPU, NO sata, no PCI cards, even so far as to remove the H75 cooler completely from the processor just to see if it will post.

I can get it to post under the following two conditions:
1) Only 1 stick of ram in slots 3 or 4 (counting away from the CPU) doesn't matter which stick, I've used them all
2) Two sticks of ram in slots 3 and 4
but if I have any ram in slot 1 or 2 - I get the DRAM Led


So, my question is - would a healthy board boot with a single stick of RAM in slot 1 or 2? Or does there need to be RAM in slots 3/4 before you can put ram in slot 1/2? Or, are my presumptions correct that I have a faulty board and those two slots are dead?



 
When it POSTs, it runs fine. I've been able to load an OS on the M.2 HD and everything. I just can't get all the ram running dual channel. And, in what might be a related note, my DDR4 3000 only clocks at 2133, but that may be an OC setting that I have yet to play with because I'm still working on getting them to work dual channel in the first place.

As for the BIOS, I was up to the version 1702 (dated March 3, 2016, I believe) but many posts on other forums had said they had troubles with anything above 1101, so I went back down to that.

Typically to get the full speed of your RAM (anything above JEDEC standards) you need to find an OC setting called XMP Profile. This will use the XMP profiles on the DIMM's. It could be that your VRAM is too low to operate in dual channel though it's funny that both will work in single channel mode.

I would try to enable XMP and then power down and configure the RAM in dual mode and see if that makes a difference.
 
Wxkeep did you manage to fix your problem im having the same issue but mine works on 1&2 but not on 3&4 ?

My board is the asrock z170 k6 with corsair lpx memory 2x8gb 2400mhz

Be nice to know if you have resolved it?

Try removing the CPU and posting here a good res picture of the CPU socket.
 
Just got the pc back from the shop he has checked everything over and he said it has to be a faulty board he has checked pins on the board he has checked the cpu tried loads of different memory and still the same problem i have just messaged scan computers to get the board sent back for a replacement board that is 2 motherboards now with same problem the z170 k4/d3 and the z170 k6

All i can do now is wait for a replacement and see if it works with yet another motherboard

Terrible luck. I've never once gotten a bad new motherboard, let alone two in a row. I did have a GigaByte motherboard years ago (P4 days) that developed an issue were it overclocked the RAM. It began crashing over and over again. Sometimes I would get into Windows and it would run for a few minutes and then crash, other times it would crash while booting Windows. I RMA'd is and got it back repaired under warranty. It worked for a year and then it started doing exactly the same thing again. This time it was out of warranty, so I ditched it and got an ASUS board.

I hope your luck improves. Let us know how it works out with "lucky number 3".
