Hello There,

I am in the market to build me some "new" gaming PCs and was curious as to what you could recommend for these PCs, Also I do have around $2,050 so yeah id like to use the money before I lose it...

PC#1:
i7 10700k - z490 Mobo
32GB of RAM
1080Ti 8GB (I was going to go for a 3070Ti, but consitering how the GPU market is right now... Proably best to find whatever I can get a bargain on, Yes I am aware that this is a 7 year old GPU)
500GB M.2 SSD (Boot Drive)
x2 1TB SSDs (Games + other stuff)
750W PSU

If there was any money left over I was wanting to get enough parts to get a PC to boot to bios while waiting for other parts

PC#2:
i7 6800k - x99 Mobo?
24-32GB of RAM (undecided)
GPU: Undecied, I know I want an 8GB model, But not from Gigabyte or Zotac.. POS
480GB SSD (Boot Drive)

If Ray-Tracing is not important to you then this will be a beast. But if you want Ray-Tracing performance then I say add more to the budget i coming 2-3months and go for RTX3080Ti 165W Laptop which will cost you a bit over this but that will give you much better Ray-Tracing Performance.

either will work in either setup.

if checking compatibility on any others;
just compare compatibility of CPU LGA socket to cooler's.

I've always thought that i7 is Ideal for PC Gaming and an i5 is trash since they don't have what it takes to measure up to an i7, and I always thought that more RAM = Better FPS, but i could be wrong... and another reason for the 32GB of RAM was my current i7 4770k system uses 32GB of RAM so i wanted to try to match it wit the new rig...

The new 12600K and 12700K are excellent for gaming but they they are more expensive vs the new 12700F as are the Z690 boards vs the B660 boards.

yes, 4x 8GB will work.
but these Core CPUs will utilize a dual channel 2x 16GB kit as well or likely better than a 4x kit.

definitely not true.
i5's have never been trash, each generation at it's time still offered good i5 gaming chips.

considering 11th/12th gen;
their i5 series will blow most older generation i7s out of the water with single core performance and even many with their multi-core performance.
the i5-12400F is much better than anything 10th gen or lower. but if going i5, i'd probably stick with the 12600K.

i tend to stick with Z*** series boards when building personal Intel systems because they offer a bit more options, a bit more headroom for future, and more opportunity for overclocking in most situations.
also the majority that i check out seem to offer better VRM cooling and usually used to offer more SATA ports(though i don't require those much anymore).
when budget building for a 3rd party, i always use B*** series boards though.

if you're building for the future and the have money to invest go with the best available and you will probably end up happier with the system for a longer period of time.

I guess I was poking at the i5 6600k to the i5 8600k or newer, Or maybe that was me just being stubborn and dumb thinking that i7's are better than any i5 chip... since I always thought the i7 hold up longer than any comparable to any i5 CPU... Also are the K variants of the i7 not worth the bargain? I thought that if your going to build a Gaming PC (Intel) go with a unlocked i7 (K)... Also what the difference between the i7 and i5 F chips? weren't the K models the one to go for? since they held up better in games?

I took the advice and updated my PCPartPicker list https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MyD32m, I got rid of the 10700k and the LGA 1200 Motherboard and updated to a 2x16 RAM kit (32GB)

I still left the case blank, not sure what I want to use for the Case...? and would a 1080 Ti (11GB GDDR5) still be a good choice for this PC? Considering that any newer GPU is still UNobtainable by any means without markups, scalpers etc...

everywhere i've seen them for the last year or so, even used, were still way over priced.
some ~1.5x what they were at MSRP upon launch.
over 5 years ago i payed ~$750 for a new EVGA FTW3 OC edition.
but mine wasn't holding up with newer games anymore since about 2020.

not sure what I want to use for the Case

Is a i7 12700k or an i7 11700k better than a KF versions of the same i7 CPU? And The reason why I posted this question to the forums was If I could use that $2050 to get enough parts to build Two Gaming PCs? Both the i7 12700k (Orignially the i7 10700k was the goal, but that was changed to the i7 12700k and the i7 8700k (backup system) or is that not possible?

you can easily "Google" the difference between F, K, KF, i5, i7, etc without waiting for 3rd party answers here.

one point of this site/forum, what seems many years ago now, was to teach people how to discover their own answers and research their own problems.

no, that's consumers that want the best possible performance and the latest architecture for a marginally different price instead of investing near to the same amount for older products that don't offer the same performance.

no basic user, unless they have way too much money to blow, is going to keep upgrading with every generation and every new technology.
but when building a new system using the latest available will keep your performance higher until you are ready to upgrade and build again, which may be every 3-4 generations or even more for many users.

saving ~$50 for ≥15% less performance is never a good idea unless you just don't need or will ever want that extra bit of performance.
but if you can get much better performance for the same price or less, then it would just be stupid to blow money on an older generation of tech because you think you are outwitting some supposed marketing scheme.

you can spend some time researching comparison reviews and watching test benches showing that in most gaming scenarios the i5-12600K, & even the 12400F, beat the i7-11700K in average FPS.
if you're not going for the i7-12700K, then go with one of the i5 12th gen variants.

or just do whatever your heart tells you.
many here have explained which path you should take, but if it will make you feel a bit better go with whatever you desire.
it's your system and the way you feel about it should really be all that matters.
whether you will be disappointed in the future or have some buyer's remorse is always a gamble we take.
