Has anybody been able to find a black cloak or a bracer? The figure in
the mural are wearing those, and it seems important that I emulate him
(I already have the glove, the dagger, the belt, the string and the buckler).

Yes. The cloak is in the same general area as the belt (not the same
room), and the bracer is in the same general area as the dagger.

You have somewhere else to go, once you've found everything. Kind of a
celestial journey.

Before you find these, you should try to explore the pit a bit further,
and illuminate the dark dome.

Thanks (and thanks to Jurisper as well for answering the same question)!

I was actually on the right track with both the pit and the dark dome
before - only I gave up just a tad too early on the pit (performing only
one action doesn't help, and I didn't try both the required actions), and
I did the right thing in the wrong place with the cloak (tried the real
thing instead of the simulation).

I think I'm finished now - the loose ends are the harp room,
the apple, the pedestal and the lead door, but it seems nobody else
has found anything to do their either. Or...?

Can I get a slight hint on the pit? I can't figure out what to do there.
I've tried changing the temperature, but it doesn't really seem to
accomplish anything.

Thanks to anyone who can help,

Yes, but it's faster the other way.

Changing the temperature doesn't help. I tried changing it back, just
to see what would happen, and - lo and behold - it didn't change it
back to the original state...

In case you're talking about the one that the mural indicates, yes,
that's why I needed the bracer and the cloak. So I've found that
ending, and the ending where I redraw the portal, and the one with
the missing part of the mask, and I died a couple of times in the
pit.

Has anybody found more endings?

I'm trying to reach this ending too, and thanks to the helpful hinting I now
have everything except the buckler. Can someone give me a hint to help me
find this last item?

You need to find something that the gauze fits on, then work from there. PJ

Figured out a while back that the gauze fits on the brass grates at the
bottom of the cistern, haven't been able to do anything more useful with
that information than make the gauze "float" back to the top of the solid
black floor. Guess I need a stronger hint.

I think that's about the last hint that can reasonably be given on that
task. On another note: I have now found 5 endings, the four everyone
has mentioned, plus one variant on the portal ending. Has anyone found
anything else? And have any of the red herrings turned out to be more
than that? Spread the word.

The gauze will always fall off the drain after a little while and float
back to the surface.

Hint: the reason the black floor isn't higher than it is is that there's
a drain at that level. What if you blocked that drain?

I have seen 5 endings as well. The same 5, I imagine. No progress on any red
herrings.

Do you look exactly like the figure in the mural? And, is it winter or
summer outside? Good luck, you're close. PJ

Thanks! That got me the buckler, and now when I look at the mural, I look
at myself in satisfaction. Sounds like I have everything I need for that
stellar journey. I thought I knew what I needed to do once I had collected
everything, but apparently I don't... :-/

I tried to emulate the figure in the mural... the sky in the mural is red
and the closest thing to a red sky that I've seen is the firelit dome. I've
tried walking west (towards the Doorway to Heaven) on the shadow bridge,
tried fiddling with or entering the Doorway both outside and in the Starry
Dome. No success yet. Hint please?

I'll give you a rather cryptic nudge: cold fire. (Can you think of any
way of making that in this game?)

Well, I found the bracer and the belt, but I have no idea where the
cloak and dagger are. Anyone care to provide (smallish) hints on those?

I did manage to get to a portal ending - I walked around the 7 color
rooms in the expected order, then went to study the diagram forever
(near as I could tell). What's the variant of this?

Finally, I see Magnus (at least) found the missing piece of memory,
but I haven't seen anything that seems to fit (I tried the letter and
chart and such just for giggles, no dice). A small hint here would
also be great.

"Cloak and dagger" - that sounds more like a spy game 🙂.

The cloak: well, the figure in the mural is walking up to the
entrance of Heaven. The puzzle has something to do with the sky.
Have you examined the stars that appear inside the dome?

The dagger: this is tricky, because you have to do something contrary
to what you normally do in adventure games. Remember the dark area
in the cave? What would you do if you wanted to explore the darkness
without a light source? In particular, you need to get deeper into
darkness - how woul dyou orient yourself?

IIRC a new object just appears in the workroom after you've explored
the lab.

Yes, but obviously too long before I got to this point, because I
had forgotten all about that. :)

That was definitely counterintuitive, and also a little too much
syntax-guessing. Not sure I'd have ever figured that out without
a hint.

That'll teach me to re-read room descriptions carefully (hey, it's
a tutorial even in expert mode!). Thanks!

Now, I just need to find the alternate version of the portal ending...

SPOILER

Going in the eighth compass direction gives you a different ending than
going down.

And you cannot go up.
