Although Pete Jasper sent me a walkthru (which appears to have some
bugs in it ) I have a question on getting to the Subterrane area. and
finding the dagger.

If you go North from Natural Passage without the lit straw torch you enter
an area of darkness.

to get out you either do UNDO
or

WALK TOWARD GLIMMER

However Pete's soltuions says to walk awy from the glimmer until you
get near the dagger.
This is what the solution says:

However I tried this several times in both EXPERT and Tutorial ON mode and
had to exit by WALKING TOWARD GLIMMER.

I believe the dagger is somewhere else.

Much help will be appreciated

Sorry, Al. I still haven't debugged the walk. But when you get into
the Darkness (north from Natural Passage w/o the torch), you should
type "go away from glimmer." If you do that and repeat it 4 times or
so, you end up in Subterrane World. I think "go away from light" also
works and there are other possibiliities, also. See the long hints
thread on this site, I think there is a discussion in there with other
possibilities.

Yep. I've got to fix the thing before giving it to anyone else. There
are other errors I've already noted, but maybe I can work on them over
the break. I hope it at least pointed you the right way.

I'll try it again the way you've outlined but I still appear to be having
trouble with it. I'll repost once more to th is thread when I get my
"results"

I've got the entire game mapped except for Iron Corridor Iron Passage and
Laboratory along with the Subterrane Area.

For your next walkthru iteration:

Going EAST from Dead End takes you to Cistern WEST NOT Cistern East.

OK that one seemed to work. For some reason when I initially played the
walkthru it didn't want to work for some reason and I did it in Tutorial Off
mode as well as expert mode

Go figure.

I don't know if this was an intentional funner on Andrew's part or not
but ususally when I get to an area of darkness I try to get out of there
right away by doiing an UNDO or retracing myt steps a(doing the opposite)
of what did to get in there.

Yes you did. Thanks a lot. I'm waiting on Andrew's newest game file and your
up to date corrected walkthru.

I'll send a map to anyone who wants one after I've finished the game and
made some minor corrections to the current map.

I imagine that's why going into the darkness is entirely optional. It is
possible to win the game with a satisfying conclusion without collecting
the dagger or many of the other items.
