My drive c a few days ago had about 8-9 gb of free space out of 97.3 gb. Now it is automatically filling itself up. It is now fluctuating between 0 kb to 100 mb (sometimes more sometimes less). I ran antivirus to no effect, ran ccleaner, deleted restore points, temporary files, all the files in C:/windows/softwaredistribution/download to minimum and temporary effect. I even deleted one of my games to gain 4 gb of space but even now much of that space is lost and is below 2 gb. I would really appreciate if somebody could help. My specs are-
Intel i7 @2.20GHz
8 gb ram
700 gb hard disk
windows 8.1 64-bits
p.s. prior to this problem a message ran across my screen that my pc has encountered a problem and needs to be restarted. Then it stated collecting some kind of information. There was also this screeching sound in the background(i was playing a movie when this happened). I don't know if this is related but i though i should mention it.

Every time the PC does another System Restore another 3 to 5 percent of your disk space is used.

Decrease the size of the space allocated for System Restore points.

Control Panel, System and Security, System, Advanced System Settings, System Protection

that could be the case but can you tell me how can i check which software does that?
