Drive Cloning Question

I'm buying a new computer at Christmas and I plan to move my files to an SSD from a HDD, I already know how, but I'd like to know whether or not performing the cloning process copies files from HDD to SSD or if it's like using "cut and paste". In short, do the files from my HDD get deleted in the move or just copied? If they do get deleted, do I need to have windows installed on HDD to use it as mass storage?

Solution

Couple of misconceptions here.

You almost certainly can't clone the OS drive from your old system to a new PC, for multiple reasons.
Strong likelihood of simply not booting up.

What, exactly, is on this source drive?

Thanks!

I have another question then, which installation does the computer use for games and other apps? I assume it uses the installation on the SSD, if that's the first boot disc.
