Hi im trying to reinstall windows on my sisters laptop after it crashed. but as soon as i get to the part where i need to select a drive for installation there is nothing, i have tried using diskpart but it doesn't recognize the drive at all. i also connected the hdd to my pc to see if i could partition it using disk management or partition wizard but it doesnt pick up there aswell. i checked the BIOS and it does pick up the drive which hopefully means its not dead.

its a Toshiba satellite c850

Any help would be appreciated

thanks for the reply
it just switched off as she was busy surfing chrome, she said there was some error message but she cannot remember which 1 unfortunately.

the drive does not read on a other system, doesnt appear on diskpart, disk manager or partition wizard. i plugged out the power cable and put it back in, a "system reserved' window pops up but then disappears again. i have no idea what that could mean

i initially tried installing windows 10 but it took extremely long to get past the "setup screen". i then tried windows 7 and it worked much faster up until the drive selection where everything was missing

Try another drive in the system.

my other drives are fine, its just the toshiba one that is not picking up anywhr
