Hi
I have a Lacie D2 Quadra V3 that will appear to mount but when I click on the icon there's nothing. Disk utility doesn't recognize it tho after a couple minutes I get a message on my MacBook Pro saying "Disk Not Ejected Properly.'
ALSO: it starts up normally but there's no crunch-click that usually indicates it's connected.
Do you think enclosure or drive? What are my best options to retrieve data?

Lastly, there's that blue button on front, it has several modes, right, which is best to be in and how can I tell I'm in it.

Hey there, Kevin.

Currently there's now way to tell if it's a problem with the drive's enclosure or the HDD itself. Not being recognized by Disk Utility is a bad sign. However it could turn out to be something as simple as a faulty connection. That's why I'd recommend that you try the HDD with a different computer (regardless if it's a PC or a Mac) and also give it a go with a different USB cable as well, to see if the same thing happens.
Your best bet for data recovery (if the drive is failing/has failed) would be a data recovery company. Other than that, you could give it a go with some data recovery software options, or try accessing it via Ubuntu Live USB/DVD, to see if you'd be able to get to your files.

As for the blue button...

As for the blue button, are you referring to the drive? If "yes", I'd recommend that you check its User Manual for more info on that.

Hope that helps.
