I am seeking help. I recently decided to ditch my 128GB ssd I bought back in 2014 thats been housing my OS and I have been attempting to move to a 1tb 970 evo m.2. I decided to do a fresh install, since its been some time since Ive done one and i cant get my drive to appear in my UEFI boot options.

I was using the m.2 prior just as my main storage drive so before installing my OS, I did a diskpart clean to make sure everything was deleted. then “convert GPT” to ensure correct formatting before removing the 128gb ssd and starting the installation process. I select the unallocated drive and install windows without error and once my pc restarts I boot straight back to the BIOS to no 970 evo boot option.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. My specs are below:

Intel i9-13900kf
MSI Z690-pro A WIFI
32gb DDR5 6000mhz (clocked to 4800 currently)
750w gold EVGA PSU
3070 FTW3
1tb Samsung 970 evo

I forgot to mention after my bios loads the first time and I dont see it as a boot option. I reuse my windows installation media & diskpart to create a new partition on the drive and ensure bootloaders are installed using the following cmd line

diskpart
list disk
select disk 1
list partition
select partition 3

(the largest partition)
shrink desired=500
create partition primary
format fs=ntfs quick
active
assign letter=H
exit
bcdboot c:\windows /s H:

after typing this in the command promt. I get no errors and that they were successfully installed, but the drive still does not appear as an UEFI option

Was the M.2 drive the ONLY one installed when you installed the OS?\

In the BIOS, what you should see is 'Windows Boot Manager' to boot from.
thank you for the reply.

Yeah, I unplugged the SATA and power cables from my 2 other drives before installing.

Let me check on that. I was expecting it to say 970 evo or something along those lins

I suggest just redoing the OS install. See what happens, without all the diskpart stuff
I appreciate the advice. Ive retried the install abt 10 times now and only do the diskpart wizardy after it fails to boot.

how would you wipe the drive before install? ive been using diskpart but ive heard just deleting the partitions in the installation media is fine

You can wipe it during the install.

Simply DELETE all existing partitions, and continue with a blank drive.

thanks again for the help! I couldnt get it to work on my m.2 after days of troubleshooting so I decided to give it a go on my 500gb ssd (rather than my 128) and got it to work first try😂

Thanks again.
