Can I get the scanner to work on windows 8?

Have you checked the Epson website for drivers? If no Windows 8 specific drivers are listed for your scanner model, you can also try the Windows 7 or Windows Vista drivers, as they may also work under Windows 8.

If you install Vuescan, which will drive the Epson 1250, then you can use this to preview the scan and then capture the preview using the snipping tool. Not quite a full scan, but if all you need is to scan documents, then this works fine.
