Driver issue... I think?!

Ok, so I'm at a point of lost right now. I got my parents old computer it had an i3 2120 in it, 6GB or ram. I bought a GT 740 off eBay and a hard drive. I got a Windows 10 key and everything was perfect, except I tried to install the derives for my GT 740 twice and after the Windows logo a black screen. I tried installing drivers from the HP website but it doesn't seem there's any for Windows 10. What do I do? My PC only boots ( doesn't black screen) if I take the GT 740 out.

PSU: BesTech ATX-250-12Z
HP model: p7-1110

does the GT 740 have a 6pin power plug? did the psu have one for it?

No, it's powered by the motherboard. No 6 pin

did the gpu fan spin? motherboard is old, might not support 740 spec. see if there is bios update.

The GPU fan did spin, I'm believing it's a driver issue? I'll try to see if there's a bios update

I just noticed the graphics card only spins when I have a cable plugged in to it. If I plug it in to the onboard graphics it stops spinning.

Well, when I try to boot I get a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION error. I can boot in to safe mode and my graphics card seems to work, I think. What the hell is wrong?

Could be the card is bad or your psu/mobo can't handle the card.
Do you have another pc to test the gpu with?

Just tested it on my main rig, same thing black screen. Card must be defective. This is why I prefer AMD...

Very good, lot's of positive feedback. They did inform me that they buy them from department stores so, maybe it was just defective in the first place.
