Hi,
i just bought a gtx 980 and my current gpu is a gtx 960, do i need to unistall the drivers or do they work with the gtx 980?

Solution
its best to do clean installs regardless I feel the installer reads your hardware and installs to it there maybe something the driver did not install for the 960 that the 980 may need --that's how I look at it and just my opinion..

its not like a big deal and better safe then sorry [more opinion]

Not needed, but recommended. If you've never had any other card in the PC other than the GTX 960, you can skip it if you want to. Nvidia drivers are all universal now.

If you've had other card, an AMD for example, you may want to run DDU from safe more. It will uninstall everything pertaining to the old drivers leaving a clean slate for installing the new one. http://www.wagnardmobile.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=30

well thanks but you gave good detail as well

I have '' swapped '' so to say cards and to quickly test them and seemed fine but as far as something I can count on clean fresh install .. that way I know thing s are for sure installed for that new or different card ..

that's just my practice on that
