Driver wont install

Hi, I have a problem with my Asus M5A97 R 2.0 Motherboard in that my USB3 ports and some USB2 ports wont work at all. The problem is the driver, whenever I download it, extract it and run setup I get the administrator message asking me to confirm that I want to run it, when I click yes, that's it, nothing else happens, no install or anything. I've tried this several times and I just can't get it to work, as a result some of my USB ports are useless. What can I do?

You sure you are running the correct drivers? 64 or 32 bit? Depending on your OS?

Technically the USBs should work WITHOUT installing drivers. So you could have a faulty board on hand.

Try right clicking the .exe and select run as administrator.
Another option, go into device manager, update the drivers manually(not automatically) and you can point the update to the folder containing the drivers.

My ports worked fine for about 2 months since building the PC, but after that they refused to work, anything I plugged in was considered an unrecognised device. I tried restoring things to a previous point but it done no good. The drivers are correct in that they are Windows 7 64bit.

Hmm then you may have somehow gotten damage to your motherboard.

To confirm this you would need to fresh install Windows to confirm its not software related(like a virus).

What about my install problem? Windows is telling me I'm missing that driver (despite having it installed before) so I went ahead and tried to install it but like I said, nothing happens after I grant it the access to do so. Would there be anyway of getting past that just to see if that solves it?

Not really any easy way to get past it. Especially since you don't know WHY its doing that.
