Drivers.. ugh.. i need lots maybe..

ok..

i am having lockups and i have eliminated overheating and hardware as the cause which leaves drivers....

which drivers though..

i know it is not video drivers because its happened with several different drivers...... side note.. the latest nvidia drivers have a lower Windows Performance Index than older ones. Windows Index correct?

Asus does not put out drivers anymore so.. i have used chipset drivers from nvidia

I had been told awhile back I needed Marvel raid drivers which i got.. do i need those? id think they need updates to but where?


I have onboard sound so where do i find drivers for that? AC97 Sound .. Soundmax...

K1 network card has latest drivers which are not that new btw..

what other drivers might i need?

I have a

Q9550 Quad core system
2x 9800GTX+ geforce cards
SATA II HD
Asus P5N-T Delux mobo with a 780i nforce chipset

If it just stated all the sudden, its not likely drivers.

I Know you have gone over hardware, but for the hell of it, try to run one of your video cards only see if it helps. If that fails, try the other.

Just ignore WEI Scores.

What tests have you run?

Memtest86+?
Prime95?

The problem has actually been an ongoing problem (year and half?).. The screen just locks up.. it looks like a screenshot of whatever you are doing. Control Alt Delete, nothing unlocks it. its just annoying to have to reboot the computer.. well force a shutdown when you are doing stuff. It is not something that happens too often. Just about once a day or once every 4 hours.

Things I have done..

I have tried running one vid card at a time and each vid card... still crash, but I should probably test again due to another problem at that time i found

I have replaced the power supply already.. had a NZXT 850 watt that was giving improper voltage for about a week and I replaced with a Corsair 750

I have ran Memtest86+ and Memtest86.. both come out clean

I have ran Prime95 and that was good

I have removed Bigfoot networks card and tried running without it

I have monitored temps and I do not have a core over 45 degrees and do not have a vid card over 64 degrees at full load

It happens in numerous programs or even web surfing. I am to the point of just grasping at straws trying to figure it out.

Test don't always ferret out bad hardware. I have had a high-end workstation crash every time it tried to load any type of Windows, the full test suite from the vendor said it was all good though. They replaced the motherboard, fixed the issue.

Try new, or at least different known good RAM first.

I suspect if not the driver it is actually the Mobo unfortunately.. i had heard that the Asus P5N-T Deluxe was a bit of a spotty board. If memory wouldnt the problem probably have gotten worse over time? its pretty much the same as it was 1.5 years ago as far as consistancy once every 4 hours

Have you tried re-installing Windows? Might as well try before replacing hardware.

yea.. happened with both windows xp and windows 7
