Does anyone know any software that will tell me the exact hardware in my
computer which is also compatible with Windows 98SE.

How to prepare to upgrade Windows 98 or Windows Millennium
Edition to Windows XP

Run the Windows XP Upgrade Advisor [excerpt from the above
page]
You can use the Microsoft Windows XP Upgrade Advisor tool to
audit the current status of your computer and to receive a
report of known hardware and software compatibility issues
(based on Microsoft testing before release). If you are
concerned about the results of the report, do not upgrade
until these concerns are resolved. Contact your hardware or
software manufacturer for updates that make the products run
correctly on Windows XP.

If you are considering an upgrade to Windows XP Home Edition
or to Windows XP Professional, and you do not have a Windows
XP CD-ROM, you can download the Windows XP Upgrade Advisor.
To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site, and then
click Download the Upgrade Advisor:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/upgrading/advisor.mspx
If you start the Windows XP Setup program to start the
upgrade while you are running another operating system,
Windows XP automatically runs the Windows XP Upgrade
Advisor. However, in this case the Windows XP Upgrade
Advisor generates a limited report that only describes the
blocking issues, not the whole report. If you want to create
the full report (that is saved as the Upgrade.txt file)
without upgrading, run the winnt32 /checkupgradeonly command
from the I386 folder on the Windows XP CD-ROM.

aida32.exe

(Your question is ambiguous. What do you expect to be compatible
with Win98: The diagnostic program, or the hardware?)

Actually i have two pc's one is an Alienware desktop running Windows XP Home
Edition. The other is a Compaq pc running Windows 98SE which i bought in
2002. I am unaware of the hardware within that pc (compaq) and want to know
what it consists of in detail rather then just using device manager, so that
then i can download the latest driver updates for the hardware. If there is
any software that tells me the hardware info in detail info and states
whether there is a driver update would help a lot. Otherwise doing it
manually would also be fine, i guess.

AIDA32 is not being supported, Lavaly's is now taken over
the program.
But Google for AIDA32, it is still being hosted in its last
version on several servers.
