Hi their,
I cannot get my microsoft presision pro joystick or my soundblaster PCI 128 to work in win2K. During the installation I keep getting messages saying that files cannot be found! Whats going on? I am guessing that windows 2000 already comes with the drivers for these devices? With sound card I get two unfound files, they are msmaud.drv and portcls.sys and with the joystic, 'msgame' would it be possible for somone to email me these files or are they too large?
my email is richard_cruseuk@yahoo.com
Thanks

Yes, Windows 2000 comes with a collection of drivers but they are insufficient. The most convenient method for installing the drivers is to use the CD which manufacturer provides along with the product. If you don't have one, you can find the drivers from the manufacturer's website or searching them through a search engine

Thanks. Unfortunatly the soundblaster drivers require files within win2k and the joystick drivers are ONLY available within win2K and are not available anyware else I have since found out, and I am missing them! this means I have to get the above three files because they can't be foundon the CD for some reason.

The PORTCLS.SYS file, should be in the WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS folder. I don't recognize the msmaud.drv file ... sorry.

The joystick, if connected to the game port on the sound card, while probably be recognized and installed correctly after the sound card is installed without errors.

I would suggest that you uninstall any instances of the sound card and joystick from the Device Manager, and then physically move the sound card to a new PCI slot, in case of a possible conflict. Then reinstall the card with the latest drivers. Afterwards, you should have no difficulty with the OS detecting the joystick, as long as you specify that the game port to be used is from Creative. If you have an integrated sound chip with a game port on the motherboard, it's possible that Windows will try to detect the new device, by default, on the intergrated port.

In that case, you should be able to select between them under the Game Controllers applet in the Control Panel. Or you can just disable the onboard game port in the BIOS.
