Hey. For XP here are the steps to add a network drive.

Open my Computer -> Tools -> Map Network Drive

Select a drive letter, then you have two options:

1. If you know the IP and folder that you are trying to access you can enter

\\IP or Server Name\Folder

Repeat to add the second one.

2. Click Browse

Find the location you are looking for in the Tree View of your network.

Hit Okay

Repeat for second drive.

NOTE** You can choose other letters than E & D, I typically choose the first letter of the folder. IE adding a drive called Shared I use drive letter S:

Assuming that they are not network drives, do you see them in Windows disk management?

You can try the MS automatic fixes: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

or try a manual fix:

to restore an optical drive, do this registry repair:

Go into the start menu, and type regedit in the run box
Find this registry key -- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
Key Name {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Value Upper Filter and Lower Filters -- delete all values, don't delete the key or the multi string values, but delete only the data values for upper and lower filters.
Then exit the registry and restart your computer. The optical drives should then show up.

Here is the MS info on that fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
