I have a samsung 840 evo 240gb ssd and a wd blue 1tb drive. Recently I have been having some trouble in windows file explorer. When I go to open my C: drive(the 840 evo) I actually get a loading bar which never finishes. Same thing happens when I try and read a flash drive. In my D: drive(the WD) the files show up right away, but say I right click to make a new folder it will stop responding and will lock up on me. This just started happening, the build is only about 2 months old. Nothing else seems slow. Boot times are still under 10 seconds and I'm typing this from the computer now. Everything seems to work fine except in the file explorer and now my flash drives. I also ran the samsung benchmarks and they were completely fine. Im stuck and dont know what to do. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi there ba1023,

You can check the following article and particularly the TRIM part too: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2110095/the-ultimate-guide-to-proper-ssd-management.html
Apart from that, I would advice you to switch cables and ports. You can check whether you insert the drives to SATA 3 ports.( I assume that your MOBO has sata 2 as well).

Regarding the HDD, you can just test it with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see whether there is something wrong with it.

WD's DLG tool: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=810&lang=en

Thanks for the reply. Both of my hard drives are connected to 6gb sata ports. This problem just recently started.

Apart from the other things I have already suggested, keep in mind that the best way to determine whether the issue you are facing is caused by the drives or the system is either to try other drives to your system or to attach the drives to another one. :)
