So, I purchased a few new Sandisk SSD plus 240gb SSDs last November during black Friday, one for my laptop, and another for my Desktop PC. After placing one of the new drives in my laptop, and reinstalling Windows 10, I took the older drive out, and placed it in my desktop, thinking to use it as a secondary storage drive. This drive, however, would not show up in the BIOS. I used 3 different SATA cables, and tried several of the SATA ports on the motherboard (an ASRock H77m), but no luck. I eventually gave up, and figured that I didn't really need the extra space anyway. About this time I also replace my desktop's HDD. Fast forward about a month. I've been gone a few days, and I get home and turn on my computer to find a nasty error message. "Insert a valid boot disk, and press enter". I enter the BIOS, and find that my SSD has disappeared entirely. This leads to a frantic search for fixes. Eventually, I update my BIOS to the latest version, and like magic, my SSD comes back. So, I go on my way for another week using my computer daily. Then the unthinkable happens. I'm gone Sunday and Monday, and when I go to turn on my computer Sunday night, I'm greeted by the same message, and nothing I can do has any effect.
So, I'm wondering where you guys think the problem lies. The SSD performed flawlessly up until it stopped appearing in the BIOS, and all of the SATA ports have been tested with another HDD I have, which still shows up fine. Should I go ahead and ask for a replacement for my SSD from SanDisk ? (My problem with this is my Laptop's HDD also doesn't show) Or is my motherboard still to blame? (Also doesn't make sense because my other drive runs great!) Or is there something tricky Windows 10 has done that could cause this problem. (The most likely option at this point, but it still doesn't make too much sense) Thoughts? Could someone please shed some light on this?
Thanks!
