Question Dropped an Intel i3 8100 CPU!

I accidentally dropped my Intel i3 8100 CPU while cleaning the thermal paste on the sides. There's a slight crack on one of the chips. Tried booting but fail. Pretty sure it's dead..? 😞😞

I'd agree. Toast. All you can do is see if it's covered under Intel replacement warranty or replace it.

Its cracked, there is nothing you can do, it won't work.

Intel's warranty does not cover dropping and damaging the cpu.

Sorry about the broken CPU, Dude.

Since it doesn't boot and the damage have already happened, you can try to apply an isolating material to the exposed cooper corners of the processor. One or two layers of clear nail polish on the exposed edges only, not into the contact pads (the place that the socket pins contact) and then let it dry before you install the cpu into the M/B.

If it doesn't work.... at least you tried. Applying clear nail polish into DIE's capacitors under the delid process is a thing, so don't worry about causing more damage than already done. You can use also liquid electrical tape instead of nail polish if you want a more pro solution.

Looks like the ground plane might be touching that one little gold plated pad in the top row all the way on the right in your pic. If you can isolate the pad again it might work. You should use a magnifier if necessary and carefully get that little shiny piece out of the way - the one that looks folded over near the top of the pad - using a dental pick or a straight pin until it is not touching the pad anymore.
