My dad dropped his seagate external ssd today, not that high acording to him. but he shut down the laptop with the ssd plugged in later and now the computer wont shut off and the ssd makes some little noise (according to him). what would be his best course of action to prevent data loss?

Solution
Noise from a SSD indicates a physically damaged circuit board. The best course of action would be attempting to move any data you can to another drive, if the drive still works at all.
