Question Dropped SSD works on one Thinkpad but not on another

Hi. I'm new to the forum.

I have a Samsung 850 EVO 500gb SSD on a thinkpad t60 with Win 10 and was working fine till I took it out for my laptop maintenance and accidently dropped it.

When I put it back and restarted the laptop, it beeped once and stopped right after BIOS POST and went no further. After multiple tries with the same result, I took out the SSD and put it into a T400 and it worked fine there.

Any idea why is this happening that its no longer recognized on the T60 but works well on the T400. I'm stumped. Thanks for any input.

The laptop the SSD does not work in, maybe that laptop is shot from when you dropped it. Maybe a cable came undone that connects the drive to the system.

What was dropped? The laptop or the SSD?

Hmm. That does make this quite strange indeed.

Look carefully at the pins and socket of both the ssd and the laptop socket.
Possibly there was a bit of damage that can be bent back.

I checked that the first thing after it was dropped. Physically there's no visible damage anywhere on the outside or the pins.

I have replaced the drive on several including a T60.
Rereading your original post, it seems to me that your maintenance is what caused some damage,
What, exactly did you do for maintenance?

Actually nothing much. I had just started to remove the SSD from the T60 as a first step to opening the laptop for blowing out dust, but before I could start anything I dropped the SSD.

Also the laptop works fine with other SSDs, so its nothing to do with the laptop but just an issue with this SSD and the T60.

Strange.
Why not keep the drive in the T400 and swap drives?
Is your drive still under warranty?
