I know how DSR works in that it plays in 4k then downsamples it to 1080p(in my case) but how close to playing 4k in terms of performance is it? does it take a bigger hit on performance compared to native 4k or less?

I was messing round with it just now using geforce on my 780ti on a 1080p screen with gta V and was getting average of 30 fps, lasted roughly 10 minutes and the game crashed as it was using too much ram (7.1 gb out of 8)

Doesn't seem to make much sense to me, thought my gpu would be closer to about 15 or 20 fps average at the most

To my understanding it improves the lighting and image quality on a 1080p screen, but it simply doesn't compare to 4K because it's still a 1080p screen and is limited to that resolution.

GTA V is a demanding game even with the lastest GPU tech, I would skip the DSR, or turn down some in game settings.

Having a 4K display, I can say that basically what it does is provide a "better" way of edge smoothing like anti aliasing. It seems to require less hardware to the job than typical edge smoothing methods. You would basically want to turn off any AA being used and compare the visuals and performance in each instance. Hope that helps.

At least with my setup I cannot run the same setting in 4K as I can with DSR 1080p scaled down from 4K. I'm not sure why the impact to performance is so much less but that was my experience in several games. :/
