Hiya Guys and Galls

Just been asked a question by a mate of mine and i didnt know the answer so i thought i would as the wonderful people here

Is there a board that could support 2 AMD AM3+ CPUs and if so could you install IE 2 x 8 core CPU's and have a machine that could run 16 Cores?

If so can anyone provide a link as it sounds reather interesting to read up on.

Thanks in advance folks

Ivor

There are no dual CPU capable AM3+ chips, therefore no dual socket AM3+ boards.

They do make pretty affordable Opteron 4000 series chips which use the same bulldozer and Piledriver architecture and support multiple sockets. Those use a C32 socket, though.

And yes if you bought two 8 core opteron, then the system would just show 16 cores. They have up to 16 core opterons and I have a few servers with dual 16 core and the OS shows 32 processor cores.

"There are no dual CPU capable AM3+ chips, therefore no dual socket AM3+ boards."

Is that still the case today (August 2015)?

So, even though it's 2015, there are no non-server motherboards that would support dual AMD FX-9590 Vishera 8-Core 4.7GHz Socket AM3+ 220W Desktop Processors? Or are they out there, and I'm just not looking hard enough?
