Dual band WiFi card on a single band router?

I have a single band router, so should I buy a dual band pci WiFi card or a single band pci WiFi card?

I would get the dual band. Router upgrades (and failures) are fairly common. Be prepared.

That is not accurate. A single band router can only send or receive from a single device a any instant in time. But the router alternates between devices over time (time multiplexing). Even with a single device, a single band router may have multiple radios and have multiple data streams simultaneously with a client device.
