I have a new system that has Win 7 Home installed. It replaced an old system that ran XP Home.
I have a legal-sized scanner (see below: these are hard to find) that is not compatible with Win 7. I want to continue using the scanner, so the only solution I can think of is to do a dual boot.
1) Is it smarter to shrink the volume on the Win 7 boot drive (C://) and create a new partition for XP there?
2) Or should I simply install XP on a separate drive?
3) How large should the XP partition be? I won't be using this installation for anything else, so there won't be a lot of programs installed.
4) Do I need a separate antivirus for the XP installation? (I run ESET NOD32.)
fyi: The scanner is a legal-sized UMAX Astra 2400S that uses Silverfast SE. The UMAX site says that the scanner is not supported by Win 7, but several fee-based sites claim that if I pay $30 I can download the driver I need for the scanner. Sounds like a scam to me. I still haven't installed the PCI card for the scanner in the new system and tried it with the old driver, but I don't have a lot of hope that it'd work. The dual-boot scenario is a workaround.
Any advice would be appreciated.
