I built a new PC. Asus B85M-E w/ I7-4770 3.4Ghz, 8Gb RAM.

New SATA 2TB HD with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS. This drive is drive C. Have my old SATA HD on this machine that has XP Pro on it. (I had used this XP installation on my previous PC that this Windows 7 machine is replacing) This drive is drive J.

I wish to make a dual boot arrangement between XP and 7.

I am aware of a program called Visual BCD Editor and how you can use this to make the dual boot option I want.

Can I use my previous installation of XP on drive J, or do I have to re-install XP Pro? Or, using BCD Editor, can I use the old Dive J XP installation somehow?

Any other thoughts on how successfully make my idea work? I have not used BCD before, so, if there's any tips, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks.

I have several different versions of windows running from different harddrives, some ssd's and some hdd's. All I do is hit F12 during boot and pick the drive I want to start. If one was installed while the other was still active - windows xp working, installed new hdd/ssd and then installed win 7 you should be able to go in to msconfig and look under the boot tab and see the different options there. If not, my first option works for me.
