I am not too sure about how or what i need to do a dual boot
i built a new system and foolishly put windows me instead of anything else, my bad. anyways my dsl service and email is not functing correctly and im going to do a dual boot until i can figure out how to fix the problem. what do i need and how do i do this? I am going to get a clean version of windows 98 (because that is what i had before, old system) and use is for internet access and email.

I don't think you can do that straight out, because both Win98 and Me will overwrite the MBR on your C:\ drive.

However, there are some boot partitioning softwares available that will allow you to do this. Partiton Magic 6.0 come with a separate program on it's CD called Boot Magic that will virtually hidden the W9x partition from the WinMe partition, which will provide you a choice between the two to boot too. This is one of them, and there are other programs that will do the same...System Commander...etc. Good luck!

I've never done this, but this is how I _think_ it goes :) Boot the 'puter w/ a boot disk w/ CD Support. Start Win98 setup. Choose an other directory to put Win98 in. Say, you have WinME in c:\windows, put Win98 in d:\windows This should do it. Or if you have only one HDD c:\win98se works too, just as long as you place it in a different dir than WinME =) Ooh... that was kinda silly note...

That sound very, very risky. Your best bet is to invest in a safe program that allows you to have multiple boot OS's. Especially if you aren't familiar with what the outcome will be in your trial method. But, this is how you learn, make a major mistake then figure out how to correct it.

I may not have all the answers but I've had my share of "OMG What Have I Done" experiences. We live & learn.

Good Luck.
