Dual boot with Windows 2000 & Windows ME

I want to run a dual boot of Win2000 and WinME so I can play every game I have. I am currently running Win2000 and want to maintain it as the primary OS. But I have few questions: -

1.) What software do I need to make a dual boot so that I can keep my existing files on my Win2000 ?

2.) Win2000 from experience is a relatively more stable OS than Win9x family, will installing WinME make my system less stable than before ?

3.) From what I heard from others, once you set a dual boot system, when the system starts up, it asks you to select which OS you want to go into. Is it possible to make Win2000 to load as the default everytime without asking ?

4.) Finally, will having a dual boot system degrade my system's performance ? When I boot with Win2000, is any WinME files being loaded ?

Thank You Very Much !!!

1. If you currently have Windows 2000 ONLY, then you might be in hard trouble. I'm not sure if you can install WinME to any other partitions other than the first, but you mihgt want to explore using Bootpart which allows you to boot anything from any partition. I haven't tried yet! Disclaimers...

2. I don't think installing WinME over Windows 2000 would hamper system stability. I had dual-booting and it seems to run fine.

3. Yes you can select what you want to start first. Go to System Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery.

4. Nah Windows 2000 and WinME is quite disconnected. Other than the existance of one or more FAT32 drives, you won't see much difference.

Windows 2000 rocks...

If your going to dual boot there is only one painless way to do it. I stress the word painless.

Back up any essential files.
Repartition your drive to your liking.
Install ME on your FIRST partition! (Dont mess around with this OS, it likes to be first trust me on this!!)
Install Win2k.
Win2k's Bootloader will be all you need, it recognizes WinME's Bootpartition and will intall it's own Bootloader.

Win2k will always be the default OS unless you specify something else. (Options in the Control Panel)

Your going to need some form of backup media to back up your essential files. CD-R's and such. I dont reccomend partition magic to move your files around. If it fails you can lose all your data.

Well good luck!
