Dual channel in slots 2 and 4. Can it be negative?

Can having your ram in slots 2 and 4 negatively affect your pc? I have a MSI z97

need the full model number of your board. MSI makes more then just one z97 board.

It all comes down to how it pairs the ram, is it 1&2 + 3&4 or is it 1&3 + 2&4.
If it is 1&2 + 3&4 and you put sticks in 2&4 then you will half your total ram bandwidth and real world speed will be reduced 10-15%

Your motherboard manual should tell you exactly which slots to put it in.
