Dual Channel Memory

Recently I have purchased the following configuration:

CPU: i5-6600
MB: GIGABYTE Z170M-D3H
Video: PALIT GeForce GTX 970 JetStream (4096MB GDDR5)
RAM: Kingston HyperX 2X4GB DDR4 2666 MHz
HDD: SEAGATE, 1TB, Barracuda, SATA3
SSD: Kingston 120GB HyperX Savage SSD, SATA 3.0
PSU: Fractal Design 750W INTEGRA

The problem I am experiencing is that the Memory sticks are not working together. I have tested both of the sticks individually on every slot and they are working correctly. But when I put them together regardless if it is on the same channel or not the second stick is not recognized. At first when I tried to use both memory sticks when I was starting the PC everything started but not the POST. What I have read is that there were some sort of settings that should be made in order to enable the dual channel mode by enabling XMP or something which I think I did but did not solve my problem.

Please advice.

Did you buy the RAM together? It's possible that the one RAM stick is faulty and you might want to return it. Try and test all memory slots on the motherboard with each RAM stick individually

Yes, RAM is 8 GB kit 2x4GB. As I already have mentioned I did thest each RAM stick individually on each slot and they are working correctly. To be honest I have never saw a faulty RAM stick by Kingston. Any other suggestions? The components still have their warranty so if there is nothing I can do to fix it I'll send the PC back to the service so they can check.

Are you sure you've got the right configuration? Check your motherboard manual. Most motherboards only support dual channel like this OXOX (O=No RAM here, X=RAM here)

Rather be safe then sorry, make use of the warranty so they can check it out for you. I also make use of Kingston and they are fantastic RAM, but unfortunately these things happen

I think I tested this already but I am not sure. I will check again. Are there any kinds of settings that needs to be done in the BIOS to enable the Dual channel?

I don't think so, the mobo should detect what config you put in. I've got a B150M mobo, that has 4 ram slots too, and I'm running it in dual channel without changing anything in the BIOS.

I received an information that this problem is caused because of the UEFI and that I should install my windows trough a special made boot flash drive in order to have this fix this. Does anyone have info about this?

P.S. Here is something else i found:
For dual channel to work DIMM 2 & 4 must be populated. It won't work with 1 & 3. Try with one stick and set timings and speed according to the sticks' specifiactions in the oc section of your bios then retry with dimm 2 & 4. If no help try slower timings like 10-10-10-28-2T

Could this fix my issue?

That could fix your issue for sure, that was what I was trying to explain with my whole OXOX thinge :). Try it!

Yesterday I gave it a try but I think I didn't do the right settings. I will try later to see if it works.

Ok, new update on the issue. I set the timings for both channels and inserted the 2nd memory stick. And once again fail to boot even the POST test. I returned to 1 stick again and when booting it asked me to reset the changes to default orcontinue booting. Any ideas? I think the time to use the warranty for its purpose has come...

Yes xmp is set to profile1 since no other profiles available. And not sure if its latest bios. Of what im aware its not recommended to flash it? Or this is changed for new generation bios?

I'd flash it, they are constantly working on compatibility issues, especially with DRAM. The not flashing BIOS goes way back, years actually. It is possible to brick a mobo, but if you update through the BIOS (not through Win) it's safe. I do prob at least 1 or more mobos a week and haven't had one die in over 4 years (knock on wood ;) )
